About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon in black ink and red wash shows a Christmas-tree scene in which an armored Santa-like figure hands parcels labeled Constantinople and Dardanelles to a small boy, while seated figures labeled Germany, Austria, France, and Turkey look on. In the right foreground a bedridden figure labeled Russia receives a crown and boots, and a figure labeled Belgium holds a sign asking for restoration. Published by Carey Cartoon Service in 1916.
