About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows a robed clergyman labeled Religion on church steps, facing a line of national figures and a helmeted figure labeled War. Ruined buildings and smoke fill the background, and a crouching figure carries a sack of loot toward the church while speech bubbles comment on the scene. The work is a 1917 print issued weekly by the Carey Cartoon Service of New York.
