About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon showing a crowd of figures tugging at a large American flag on a muddy hill, with Uncle Sam helping and a figure labeled Wilson pulling a rope at right while European caricatures look on. Speech balloons carry satirical remarks about the nation's unity and foreign affairs. The work is titled Upholding the Flag, issued weekly by Carey Cartoon Service and dated 1916.
