About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows a row of national figures queuing at a shop called General John Bull Merchandise, whose door bears a Closed sign while a shopkeeper leans from an upper window refusing customers. A German figure in a horse-drawn cart labeled Bill Whoishollerin, Truckman, waits outside, and speech balloons mock the closure. The work is titled The Way of the Transgressor, produced by Carey Cartoon Service and dated 1917.
