About this work
A hand-colored ink cartoon by Carey Cartoon Service from 1917 shows personified nations gathered before a Peace Palace, with Uncle Sam and others speaking in speech balloons while Germany, Turkey, Bulgaria and Austria approach with bellicose gestures. Spain sits apart playing solitaire, and the caption beneath reads The War Will Now Begin.
