About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon titled The Temptation shows a German figure in a red cape offering a pastoral landscape of farms, pigs and a sunrise labeled Peace to a Russia figure. Uncle Sam with a money bag and a John Bull type figure warn Russia from above, while Austria, Turkey and Bulgaria paint a backdrop on a cliff. The work was issued by Carey Cartoon Service in New York in 1917.
