About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows personified nations racing toward a glowing sign labeled naval, commercial, military supremacy. Uncle Sam stands above the track beside banners reading for an American merchant marine and for more American factories, while a bear labeled Russia grapples with a figure labeled Austria. The print is credited to Carey Cartoon Service and dated 1914.
