About this work
A colored pen-and-ink political cartoon shows a giant figure representing the United States lying in a forest, with a man in a hat firing a revolver, while lulled figures tied to Prosperity and Peace labels sit nearby and a motorcar marked Ford drives past. The speech bubbles carry satirical remarks on preparedness, neutrality and provoking conflict. The work is titled The Giant Awakens, issued weekly by Carey Cartoon Service and dated 1916.
