About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon titled The Fall of Verdun shows a car labeled German War Machine careening off a road past a signpost reading Verdun, with figures representing Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, and Turkey as passengers and France and Holland watching from the roadside. The caption and speech bubbles satirize the German advance, and the work was issued weekly by Carey Cartoon Service in 1916.
