About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon titled The CornerED Grocer shows a grocery store where a figure labeled Germany and others representing Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Turkey haggle with a shopkeeper. Uncle Sam stands at the counter demanding real goods, while speech bubbles mock broken promises and evasive dealings. The work was issued by Carey Cartoon Service in 1916.
