About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows Uncle Sam holding a newspaper headlined about the Lusitania being torpedoed by a German submarine, while caricatured figures of Germany, England, Italy, Japan and China look on. A burning ship sinks at left, and a crowd on the right chants about the President and rocking the boat. The lettering at bottom reads Stand by the President! The print is dated 1915 and was issued weekly by the Carey Cartoon Service.
