About this work
A hand-colored cartoon set in a bar called Mars' Café, where caricatured European nations sit at a table and drink, while a bartender labeled Mars mixes drinks and shelves hold bottles marked with explosives and poison gas. Speech balloons carry jokes about treating friends and enemies, and a figure in a top hat and red coat invites the others to join him. The work is titled Setting 'Em Up, was drawn by Carey Cartoon Service, and dates to 1915.
