About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows a rowing boat labeled U.S. Ship of State tossed by stormy waves, with figures such as Wilson at the wheel and Bryan, Taft and Roosevelt aboard, while sea creatures labeled pro-German press, pro-Allies press and irresponsible agitators churn the water. The caption Rocking the Boat appears below the image, and the piece was issued weekly by the Carey Cartoon Service in New York in 1915.
