About this work
A 1917 political cartoon titled On His Way, published by the Carey Cartoon Service in New York. It shows Uncle Sam stepping toward a doorway guarded by a Liberty figure holding a pistol, while a seated man in a Bryan sash pleads with him to stay home and a Congress-labeled figure looks on. Caricatured figures in masks and sashes labeled German and Schlesswig stand along the International Highway, and a garbage can and American flag appear in the scene.
