About this work
A 1916 political cartoon titled Meeting All Comers, issued by Carey Cartoon Service, shows a boxing ring where national caricatures face a muscular strongman labeled Wilhelm, who is styled as Europe's strong man. Figures labeled Russia, France, Bulgaria, Turkey, Roumania and Servia are shown fallen, sitting in the corner or pleading, while Uncle Sam watches from the side with an Aid to Refugees sign. Speech bubbles and a seated audience complete the satirical scene.
