About this work
A hand-colored wartime caricature shows a skeletal figure labeled Fate operating on a seated officer in a dental chair, while personified nations including Uncle Sam, Austria, Bulgaria, and Turkey react nearby. Explosives, a poison gas cylinder, and rotten teeth labeled Verdun, Zeppelin, and U-Boats fill the scene. Published as a print by Carey Cartoon Service in 1918.
