About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon shows a strongman labeled Germany balancing a pyramid of figures labeled Austria and Turkey on a bottle marked militarism, while a ringmaster and onlookers representing Russia, England, Denmark, Norway and Holland comment from the sides. Torpedoes and a circus-style stage frame the scene, and the caption reads In the European Spotlight. The work is credited to Carey Cartoon Service and dated 1915.
