About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon titled Homeward Bound shows caricatured figures of Turkey, Austria, Germany and Bulgaria being swept back from the shore by waves, while a bearded naval figure aboard a U-boat marked U-23 looks on. Speech bubbles and captions reference the Allied drive, a British advance and the Kaiser's party leaving the seashore, set against the coast of Belgium. The work is dated 1917 and was issued by Carey Cartoon Service.
