About this work
A colour political cartoon shows caricatured European powers and Uncle Sam gathered around an auction block, with a figure of War offering a bid for a young man. Labelled sacks marked Bribery, Promises, Intrigue, Separate Peace and Loans, along with speech balloons, make the satire on wartime alliances explicit. The work is titled Bid Lively, Gentlemen!, was produced by Carey Cartoon Service, and is dated 1917.
