About this work

A hand-coloured pen-and-ink cartoon shows a crowd of caricatured immigrants and well-dressed travellers at the American Line terminal, with the STEERAGE entrance marked 62 at the centre. Dialogue balloons in dialect and phrases of mock indignation fill the scene, with a bold title across the bottom. The work is a 1914 print by Carey Cartoon Service of New York.
