About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon showing a giant infant labeled WAR holding a treasure chest over a crowd of caricatured nations, including France, England, Germany, Russia, Italy, Turkey and Austria, while figures labeled Envy and Hatred and a skull-strewn floor suggest the carnage of the period. A smaller inset titled Baby's First Birthday shows the earlier scene, and the bottom of the sheet carries the title Baby's Second Birthday.
