About this work
A hand-colored political cartoon with ink linework showing caricatured national figures driving motor vehicles along a rough road toward a boulder labeled European Complications. Germany, England, France, Russia, and Belgium are identified by labeled vehicles, while Uncle Sam drives a small car and a figure labeled Bryan appears in the foreground. The piece was issued weekly by the Carey Cartoon Service in 1915 and bears the title A Hard Road to Travel.
