About this work

A crowd of skaters in late nineteenth-century dress glides across a frozen expanse, with women in fur-trimmed coats and long skirts and men in dark overcoats and hats. A fallen skater sprawls near the right edge while distant trees and low hills frame the pale, pink-tinged sky. This 1885 print by Henry Sandham is a chromolithographic reproduction published by L. Prang & Co.
