About this work

A dramatic battle scene shows militiamen in tricorn hats firing muskets across an open field toward a line of soldiers while smoke drifts through the air. A mounted officer on the right raises his sword, and a wounded man lies in the foreground beside a dropped musket. Two period buildings and a bare tree frame the scene. The print is titled Dawn of liberty, by Henry Sandham, dated 1896.
