About this work

A black-and-white lithograph in which Europe's countries are drawn as caricatured faces and figures on a map, with Russia rendered as a large bearded head with a fur hat. A uniformed soldier holding a tricolor flag stands at left beside the date 1789, and a fur-clad figure stands at right beside 1845. The work is titled L'Europe animée, created by Achille Belloguet in 1870.
