About this work
Two facing pages of a Japanese sketchbook show flowering branches rendered in ink outline with soft pink and red color washes, with blossoms and buds at various stages. Handwritten inscriptions appear in the margins and centre, and faint ghosted foliage fills the background. The work is attributed to Ariyoshi Kondo and dated 1826-1840.
