About this work
This page from a sketchbook shows botanical studies in soft watercolor, including a curved stem with a dried bud, a spike of purple flowers with green leaves, and a branching plant with clusters of small yellow flowers. A pencil sketch of a mouse appears beside the yellow-flowered plant, and handwritten Japanese inscriptions accompany the drawings. The work is attributed to Ariyoshi Kondo and dated 1826-1840.
