About this work
A two-page sketchbook spread showing a bird wing with dark feathers and blue barred coverts, a dragonfly with a handwritten date inscription, two grey cocoon-like forms, and a red berry cluster on a green stem. The pages are rendered in ink and light colour washes on paper, with Japanese inscriptions beside each study. This plate is from Ariyoshi Kondo's sketchbook, dated 1826-1840.
