About this work
This page from a sketchbook shows a botanical study of a large pink peony with a yellow center, a spiky thistle-like plant bearing orange blossoms, and a dark green bud on a long stem. Faint pencil outlines of additional blooms and handwritten Japanese inscriptions with dates appear across the page.
