About this work
A chromolithographic caricature by Charles Jay Taylor from 1895 shows Uncle Sam riding a camel and reading a book labeled Political Guide, led by a child in a light robe. Along the colonnade, sphinx-like statues bear the caricatured faces of politicians, with names such as Tom Reed, Allison, McKinley, and Morrison inscribed on their bases. The composition uses Egyptian architectural motifs and a warm yellow sky.
