About this work
A mounted samurai in red and black lacquered armor rests a drawn katana on his shoulder while his brown horse stands in shallow water beneath a pale moon. The teal sky, distant shoreline and trees frame the figure, and the text cartouche and red seals appear in the margins. This woodblock print is by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi and dates from 1885-1892.
