About this work

A pen-and-ink drawing shows an elderly man in evening dress dancing with a woman in a long, embellished gown while a crowd of women and men in formal attire looks on, and a man in a kilt stands at the right. Chandeliers hang in the background of the ballroom. The work is Charles Dana Gibson's 1899 print, whose inscription at the lower edge reads that a ball is given at Caroney Castle on Mr. Pipp's birthday.
