About this work

A muscular, nearly nude warrior with wild hair and a white headband leans sharply to one side in a grassy field, one arm raised as he seems to catch or deflect a flying arrow. A thatched watchtower stands at left beneath a dark sky, and a red banner with Japanese title characters hangs at upper right. This Japanese woodblock print by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi is dated 1878.
