About this work

This flat-color print from 1901, titled Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son and published by Lawrence & Bullen, shows two running figures in red and brown costumes on a tan ground. On the left a boy in a red hood carries a squealing pig under his arm while a shoe lies on the ground, and on the right a figure with a wooden cane runs after him with a hat flying in the air. The bold outlines and simplified shapes give the scene a graphic, poster-like quality.
