About this work
A woodblock print titled Batta by Keisai Eisen, dated 1830, shows a green grasshopper perched on a broad leaf beside a slender flowering plant with buds and a frayed blossom. The muted brown ground and red seal marks in the lower right give the sheet a restrained, traditional character. The work is held by the Library of Congress.
