About this work
This plate, titled Altars and dated 1911, is a lithographic print by Josef Reich showing a stone sarcophagus inscribed SVRVS EPC, a circular medallion depicting a seated Christ with two haloed figures at a draped table, a receding vaulted underground corridor, and two altar designs on stepped bases, one with a circular emblem and one with four columns. The sepia tones and architectural rendering give the sheet a documentary, antiquarian character.
