About this work
This chromolithographic jewelry design shows a nude female figure standing on a scallop shell at the top, above a central blue mask-like motif with pearl clusters beneath it. Pendant chains, gemstones, cameo medallions and dangling pearl strands frame the composition, with the lettering Die Perle across the upper section. The sheet is credited as designed and drawn by Martin Gerlach, dated 1872 to 1873.
