About this work
An engraved oval portrait shows a man with a moustache and a large white ruff, wearing a dark embroidered doublet, a chain across his chest, and holding a glove. The surrounding ornamental frame carries Latin inscriptions naming the sitter as Jean-Baptiste Besard, and a date of 1617 appears in the lower margin. The print was made by Lucas Kilian.
