Lucas Kilian

Lucas Kilian learned engraving in Augsburg from his stepfather, Dominicus Custos, who married his mother after his father died. He also trained in Venice under Hendrick Goltzius and later went back to Augsburg to work with his brother Wolfgang. His engraved portrait of Albrecht Dürer, based on a Dürer self-portrait, became one of the best-known images of Dürer. His anatomy sheets, made after designs by the doctor Johannes Remmelin, first came out in 1613 and were reprinted many times. Nearly 1050 works have been identified as his.
