About this work

A lithograph shows a performer in a red skirt, blue bodice and striped leggings standing in a barred cage among a lion, a tiger and a spotted leopard, with a whip raised in one hand. The animals are shown rearing, snarling and crouching around her, and an audience of top-hatted spectators is faintly visible behind the bars. The print is titled The lion queen, is attributed to Gibson & Co. Lith, and is dated 1874.
