About this work
A lithographic print titled Balloon show bill, issued by Gibson & Co. in 1871, shows a large balloon whose basket is loaded with hat boxes and a man in a top hat. Hats and boxes tumble from the basket onto a crowd on a city street, while banners advertise Latest Paris Styles and Lowest Prices. Spectators look from the windows of brick buildings lining the scene.
