About this work
This hand-coloured print by Johannes de Vouw, dated 1694-1695, shows two views on one sheet: the fish market with stacked fish, figures in period dress and ships with flags along the quay, and the Doelen building with a formal garden, walking figures and trees. The architecture and street life are rendered in fine engraved lines with soft colour washes.
