About this work

A hand-colored engraved planisphere shows the Ptolemaic model of the universe, with concentric orbs bearing the planets and the zodiac around the outer ring. Allegorical chariots and winged female figures decorate the composition, and two seated scholars with globes flank the lower corners. The title and printed text appear in the upper corners and along the frame, and the work is attributed to Andreas Cellarius and dated 1660.
