About this work
This 1660 print by Andreas Cellarius shows a northern celestial hemisphere with constellations drawn as mythological figures and animals, overlaid on a terrestrial map and framed by trumpeting angels holding banners. Two robed figures with a globe-like sphere stand at the lower corners beside small buildings, and the sky is shaded with clouds and putti.
