About this work
A hand-coloured celestial map of the southern hemisphere shows the ancient constellations arranged within a circular zodiac ring, with mythological figures such as a centaur, a scorpion, and a great hunter. Putti and cherubs float among billowing clouds at the corners, and ribbon cartouches bear the title. This print by Andreas Cellarius is dated 1660.
