About this work
This engraved celestial chart, attributed to Andreas Cellarius and dated 1660, shows a large circular orbit of the Sun around a central point, labelled with Latin astronomical terms and surrounded by zodiac signs. Putti holding banners and drifting among clouds frame the scene, while smaller inset diagrams illustrate alternative planetary models.
