About this work
This gouache and watercolor sketch shows two steamboats moored in a harbor, with tall smokestacks and cabins rendered in loose, flat strokes of blue, purple, and ochre. A wooden dock with green and red mooring posts runs across the foreground under a pale blue sky. The work is attributed to George Williams and dated 1934-1943, titled From Dixie to Harlem: Steamboats in Harbor.
