At thirteen, Auguste-Louis Lepère started training in the Paris studio of the engraver Joseph Burn-Smeeton. Born in Paris in 1849, he worked mostly on scenes of daily life in his etchings and wood engravings. He's remembered for trying new things, like printing on coloured paper and combining etching and wood engraving on the same print. His last years went almost entirely to wood engraving. He left over 150 etchings, over 200 wood engravings and 14 lithographs before he died at Domme in 1918. Browse 394 works by Louis Auguste Lepère from 15 museums, free to download in HD.
