About this work
This grey wash drawing shows a choppy sea crowded with sailing vessels, with a small barque in the foreground carrying four men and sailing to the right. Larger ships with furled and full sails appear on the left and right, and a distant fleet fades into the haze of the horizon. The work is attributed to Cornelis de Grient and held by the Städel Museum.
