About this work

A loose charcoal or pencil sketch on cream paper shows two standing female nudes, one turned slightly away with arm raised and the other with head bowed and arms at her sides. The rapid, summarized contour lines and hatched hair give the figures a sense of quick observation. This drawing by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner is dated 1910 and held by the Kupferstichkabinett, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
